Policy brief released: Dawn of the human-only era

Human-centric AI policy brief

SkillAIbility is proud to announce the release of its first policy brief, “Dawn of the Human-Only Era: Reframing Human-Centric AI and Workforce Values in the Age of Automation and Symbiosis”, based on insights from our roundtable at IFAC MIM 2025 in Trondheim.

This publication brings together diverse perspectives from academia, industry, and policy to address a pressing question: How can we ensure that AI and automation augment rather than replace human roles in society?

Key takeaways from the brief:

  • Transparent and inclusive AI design is essential—users must understand and trust the systems they work with.
  • Humans should remain the final decision-makers, with clear oversight mechanisms like the “red emergency stop button.”
  • Critical thinking, ethics, and adaptability are irreplaceable human strengths in an AI-augmented world.
  • AI literacy must be embedded across all levels of education, from primary schools to lifelong learning.
  • Policymakers, educators, and civil society must be actively involved in AI development and deployment.

Policy recommendations include:

  • Mandatory transparency and explainability for AI systems.
  • Structural support for hybrid human-AI work models, not replacement-based automation.
  • Co-regulation frameworks to embed ethical and safety standards by design.
  • Empowerment of underrepresented communities in shaping AI’s future.

Why this matters

As AI becomes increasingly embedded in our workplaces, classrooms, and public services, we face a critical inflection point. Without proactive policies and inclusive governance, the benefits of AI risk becoming unevenly distributed—deepening inequalities and eroding trust.

This policy brief highlights a more hopeful path: one where AI is designed to complement human creativity, intuition, and responsibility, not override them.
